“Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” Park located at the intersection of Houston and Lee Streets. This is the birthsite of James Weldon Johnson, who wrote, with his brother John Rosamond Johnson, “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” in the late 1800s, which the NAACP calls the “Black National Anthem.” The Durkeeville Historical Society donated three historical markers for the dedication to honor each of the brothers and one for the song. Further development of the site is in the planning stages.
